“ The project delighted the employees of VAM, since it was the first time they were immersed in the creation of a new model and not in the “adaptation” of an existing one taken from the catalog of the AMC. By the way, VAM’s development center was quite active, since its proposals for technical and aesthetic solutions turned out to be highly effective. So much so, that they were retaken by American Motors with excellent results. A good example of this is that the legendary 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine that Jeep used in the Wrangler, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee was conceived by Mexican engineers ... But that’s a story that will be addressed on another occasion. ”

This might be the greatest achievement of Mexican automotive engineering and I can’t find more about it, personally I cannot believe it, in the literal sense I doubt this is true.

plausible; that engine dates back to 1964 and VAM had been around for a while back then. Also they had their own version of the six (282 cubic inches) in the ‘70s.

Yup, we had a version with a different compression ratio than the American one for our higher altitude and worse fuel quality, however I think it was just a rework of the headers,
